HERE IS THE EXAMPLE OF REPORT
1. GIRAFFE A giraffe is a very tall animal. In fact, it is the tallest animal in the world. A giraffe has a very long neck. Unfortunately, the giraffe cannot bend its neck easily. Thus, when it wants to drink water at a pool, the giraffe has to spread its front legs apart, so it can reach the water. A giraffe feeds on plant only. Hence, it can reach the leaves on trees easily because of its height. Also, a giraffe has a very long tongue about 0.5 metres long. The giraffe uses this long tongue skillfully to pick leaves off plants and trees. This tall animal can protect itself very well. It has a very good sense of smell and sight. It can hear very well, too. Finally, it can gallop very fast at a speed of 50 km.p.h. The giraffe's hind legs and long neck are also very useful. For example, a giraffe can kick its enemy with its hind legs or even hit out with its long neck. 2. CUCUMBER The cucumber (Cucumis sativus) is a widely cultivated plant in the gourd family Cucurbitaceae, which includes squash, and in the same genus as the muskmelon. The cucumber is a creeping vine that roots in the ground and grows up trellises or other supporting frames, wrapping around ribbing with thin, spiraling tendrils. The plant has large leaves that form a canopy over the fruit. The fruit is roughly cylindrical, elongated, with tapered ends, and may be as large as 60 cm long and 10 cm in diameter. Cucumbers grown to be eaten fresh (called slicers) and those intended for pickling (called picklers) are similar. Cucumbers are mainly eaten in the unripe green form. The ripe yellow form normally becomes too bitter and sour. Cucumbers are usually over 90% water. Having an enclosed seed and developing from a flower, botanically speaking, cucumbers are classified as fruits. However, much like tomatoes and squash they are usually perceived, prepared and eaten as vegetables.

Selamat belajar! |

Description OF GAMBITS: Think of the last time you were in a group where everyone around spoke English. Did you want to say something, but didn't know how to start? Did you have a funny remark, but didn't know how to get people to listen to you? At that point, you needed a gambit.
A gambit is a conversational tool that gets us going. For instance, you could have said, "Guess what? My teacher just got engaged again", or perhaps, "Speaking of bosses, I heard a good joke the other day." There are special gambits for nearly all situations. For instance, if you want to state an opinion, you might start out by saying, "I think that ..." or "In my opinion..." Of if you want to agree with the speaker enthusiastically, you might try, "That's precisely the point!" You know most of these gamits already; the point of these three modules is to get enough practice so you can use them actively when the situation calls for them.
There are four types of gambits. The first group is openers. They are used to lead into something that you have on your mind. For instance, suppose you're thinking of something disagreeable and you want to introduce that topic. So you say, "We'd better face the fact that ..." or, "Whether we like it or not ..."
If you want to tie into what has just been said, you will probably want to use links. For instance, if you disagree with the speaker and want to offer your own opinion, you might say, "I think the real problem is money, not time." Or then, you may want to give your conversational partner some feedback about what he's saying. In that case you use responders, like "You're right!" or "No doubt about that!" |

Rimmy : Are you sure it’s the correct steps of making this traditional cake, Dian? Dian : I’m certain with the way of cooking but I doubt with the amount of flour and grated coconut for good portion. Rimmy : Well, you do the steps right, but I wonder why the dough is stuck on the pan. This must have something to do with the dough. Dian : Let me think about it. I’m sure we need more fat for it but it’s no oil must be used, for sure. Rimmy : You’re right. Maybe we can add more grated coconut to make it greasy. Dian : Good idea. Let’s try again. Dalam dialog di atas “Are you sure …..? adalah contoh pemakaian ungkapan meminta kepastian. “I’m certain “ dan “I’m sure “ mengungkapkan kepastian. Sedangkan “I doubt” adalah ungkapan ketidakpastian/keraguan. |
